Gadget Rocks, or so we've been told
Gadget, or "Gah-jeet" as they are also known, consist of Hadley Jones who dabbles on keyboards when she wants to, Phil Lebovits plays backward guitar, Matt Norton drinks it up on bass and Keith King taunts his drums into saying things they shouldn't say.
Everybody sings as is necessary,
but Hadley and Phil do most of it.
Gadget as a band exists only the minds of fans now, but as a concept, Gadget lives on. Of the nearly three dozen songs that the band churned out during its live gig faze, only 7 have ever been recorded.
Gadget's sound has often been discussed, most often by the band members themselves. In these discussions names like Talking Heads,
B-52s and Cake are used. But there are so many other influences, like musical theater and theatre, The Groundlings, just about every Sit-Com on TV, soup, chocolate, beer, lots of beer and fun, above all, fun.
If it wasn't fun, Gadget didn't do it.
The band has tackled some edgy subjects in their songs, like palm readers, the Chinese art of Feng
Shui, the mentally handicapped and getting laid at a wedding. The sense of humour is always present. And because none of the band members are really pursuing a career in music per se, well it makes it that much more fun.
But the fun ended for Gadget like it did for so many of us on September 11, 2001, or the day after at their last official gig. Since that night Gadget has not raised their instruments.
